Sometimes New eBayers Need Guidance On Leaving Feedback
Most eBay sellers know that eBay has a fairly detailed ‘Report Card’ system that grades your performance. If you are doing really well, reflected in your sales and in your feedback, eBay has made it public knowledge that you will get ranked higher in their “Best Match” search engine. I have eBay refer to this processes as giving a ‘Positive Buying Experience.’ If you rake up enough of these positive buying experiences on a specific item, you will eventually get to the top of a key word search.
One of the easiest ways to prove that you are doing what you need to do in regards to customer service is to have a stellar feedback score. If you are brand new on eBay it is not the easiest process to figure out. I encourage each of my buyers to leave me positive feedback and give me five / five stars for my detailed seller ratings. Here is the exact script that I send my buyers:
Your order has been secured. Once the tracking number is received from the warehouse it will be uploaded to eBay, if it hasn’t been already. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us directly through this message or the “CONTACT SELLER” button.
If for ANY reason, you are unhappy with your purchase please contact us through this message or the “CONTACT SELLER” button. If you simply do not like the item and want to return it, please contact us through this message for return instructions. We are human. If there is any error with your order (for example: you received the wrong item / wrong color or tracking didn’t save to the order) PLEASE reply here and we will do our best to make it right.
After I send this, I will post positive feedback for you. Please return the favor with 5 / 5 stars. Should you feel that we don’t deserve this, please email us prior to leaving feedback via the “CONTACT SELLER” button and we will address your concerns.
Have a GREAT day!
I have tested various replies and I use the above reply because it works for all types of sales: Auctions, Good Til Cancelled listings, items shipped by me, items shipped by one of the manufactures that I work with and so on. I think it is a good business practice to leave positive feedback on every sale. The buyer is expected to pay quickly. If they have done that, you should leave them positive feedback. With that being said, I often get email replies like this to my message:
This is great to hear but it is not official eBay feedback. Here is another simple script that I have been using to reply to these types of emails.
Thanks for kind words. Could you do me a favor? Would you be willing to leave official feedback on eBay? It is real simple. Please follow these simple steps:
Click My eBay at the top of most eBay pages. You may be asked to sign in.
Click the Account tab, and then click the Feedback link on the left.
Under Items Awaiting Feedback, find the item you want to leave Feedback for.
Click the Leave Feedback link in the Actions column.
Enter a rating and comment for your trading partner.
Click the Leave Feedback button.
This would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
This simple script has me turning the majority of these messages into positive feedback and 5 / 5 stars for my Detailed Seller Ratings (DSRs). Just so you know, eBay prevents sellers from making certain statements about feedback in their listings or encouraging buyers to leave 5-star DSRs feedback ratings. Pop-up messages will appear if you try to put statements like the above message in your eBay listing. However, sending the above message is not against eBay’s Terms of Service (currently).
